Reema Amin

What are you most looking forward to this service year?
The thing I'm looking forward to most in my service term is learning more about areas of Chicago that are new to me, and understanding what social determinants of health affect the people living in Albany Park and how these determinants can be mitigated to ensure better health outcomes. I'm excited to help build upon the structures in place doing important service to not just put a band-aid over health concerns, but find real and meaningful ways to solve issues in a sustainable manner

What are your plans after AmeriCorps service?
I hope to go to medical school, with the aim of being able to serve lower income and/or uninsured/underinsured patients one day!

I'm interested in learning about...
Lack of accessibility to quality care, the ins and outs of insurance and how that can also serve as a barrier to accessing specific care providers, social determinants of health that exist specifically in Chicago and what work is being done to mitigate some of them.
