What is your title and role at your host site?
I am serving as the Care Coordinator at UF Health – Healthy Start, Jacksonville. In this role, I will provide service to pregnant mothers, new mothers, and infants to promote healthy pregnancies and healthy infants. I will work to enroll patients in Healthy Start, Nurse Family Partnership, and Little Miracles Program.
Why did you join the National Health Corps Florida AmeriCorps program?
I joined NHC because I wanted to create a positive impact on underserved communities while expanding my experience in the health care field. After doing some research, NHC seemed like the perfect fit. It will allow me to better myself as a future physician by working with a diverse population while simultaneously promoting the health of a community.
What are you hoping to gain from your year of service? I am hoping to connect with other people with a similar passion for community service and health care. I am also hoping to gain knowledge of the health care field and how each individual can make an impact. I hope that my service will produce a meaningful impact even if it is a small one!
What are your plans after AmeriCorps service? After serving with AmeriCorps, I hope to attend medical school and pursue a career as a physician.
Where do you envision yourself in 5 years? In five years, I hope to be enrolled in medical school.
