Host Site: Sulzbacher Beaches Clinic

What is your title and role at your host site?
As a Patient Navigator at the Sulzbacher Beaches Clinic, my role is divided into several tasks. I will be screening for eligible patients and helping them with the process of enrolling in our Patient Assistant Program (PAP). Furthermore, I will be conducting health education classes for patients to raise public awareness on various health issues, such as nutrition and stress management. Lastly, I will help with stocking the medication room.

Why did you join the National Health Corps Florida AmeriCorps program?
I wish to serve with the National Health Corps Florida because my experiences from volunteering at the soup kitchen and at the hospital has shown me the need for more public servants. I found that I truly enjoyed helping other people, connecting with them through shared experiences, and making an impact. Thus, I would like to spend a few years serving the community before I attend med school.

What are you hoping to gain from your year of service?
I hope that serving with a diverse group of people can make me a more efficient communicator and teach me about the different aspects that contribute to the health field. Furthermore, I hope the skills I learn will enable me to start an effective volunteer program in whatever city I reside in.

What are your plans after AmeriCorps service?
I plan to attend medical school for Oncology, which is a field that I am very passionate about.

Where do you envision yourself in 5 years?
I hope to enter residency for Oncology in five years.
