What is your title and role at your host site?
I will be a care coordinator and women’s outreach associate at my host site. While working in UF Health clinics, I will help women enroll in various programs designed to promote healthier pregnancy practices and foster easier transitions for mothers and infants. Such programs include Healthy Start, Little Miracles Program, and Nurse Family Partnership. I will also coordinate educational workshops targeting women’s health issues.
Why did you join the National Health Corps Florida AmeriCorps program?
I joined NHC Florida because it provided an opportunity for me to create tangible change in the community. I am excited to meet the clients I will be serving and to work to foster healthier lifestyles for women in my community. This program allows me to combine compassion and a desire to serve with the means to help others around me.
What are you hoping to gain from your year of service?
During my year of service, I am hoping to meet other individuals who share the same drive to tackle social issues and help create a stronger community. I hope to do meaningful work for my clients and serve the community with compassion and integrity. I am excited to get to know Jacksonville and to leave my small mark upon it!
What are your plans after AmeriCorps service?
After serving with AmeriCorps, I plan to apply to medical school and become a physician.
Where do you envision yourself in 5 years?
In 5 years, I hope to be in my third year of medical school and beginning to decide what field of medicine in which I would like to specialize.
