Why did you join NHC?
In between 4 years of college and 7+ years of medical school, I really wanted the opportunity to dive into an immersive, hands-on experience where I would have the opportunity to serve a diverse patient population. I first heard of NHC through my older brother, Andrew, who served as an Insurance Specialist at Health Center 3 in Philadelphia. After hearing about his memorable patient encounters, strong friendships with other NHC members, and useful professional development and health care-related seminars, I knew NHC would be a perfect gap-year experience.

What are your plans after NHC?
I am hoping to go to medical school.

What sparked your interest in community service?
For my entire life, my parents have instilled in my the value of community service. After moving to Chapel Hill, my mom founded two non-profit organizations. PORCH (People Offering Relief for Chapel Hill-Carrboro Homes), which organizes monthly food drives and delivers food to at-risk families, pantries, and schools, has now raised over $2 million for local hunger relief. Orange County Living Wage promotes local businesses that pay all of their employees a living wage of $13.70. My experiences partaking in these organizations and watching them grow throughout my childhood has piqued my own interest in community service and the opportunity to make a real change in the community.
