Why did you join NHC?
After graduating from college, I wanted to directly impact underserved communities through empowering health programs and tackle new challenges as a professional. As an NHC member, I look forward to advocating for patients in the healthcare system, building strong relationships with the community, and learning more about the interconnected public health and clinical systems in Philadelphia.

What are your plans after AmeriCorps service?
After my year of service, I hope to continue on my path to becoming a healthcare professional. I envision that my experiences this year navigating healthcare with culturally diverse families will inform my vision of compassionate care.

Tell us about an employment, service, or research experience that was important to you.
As a college student, I volunteered at a clinic for uninsured and underinsured residents of Baltimore where I aided in implementing the CDC’s National Diabetes Prevention Program as a community-based intervention. This experience became key in shaping my mode of advocacy. Now, I incorporate ways to empower others to take charge of their health in addition to finding innovative solutions to issues.

What first sparked your interest in community service?
Growing up, I got to see my family members create impactful actions for healthcare for the underserved and continuing education for Indian women. It planted a seed of wondering what kind of member I wanted to be in my communities.

What about Philadelphia excites you the most?
Septa Subway. Art Museum. Old City. Parks.

What’s your favorite food?
I'll focus on desserts. The three B’s: Baklava, Babka, and Brioche with Nutella.
