Why did you join National Health Corps?
I wanted the opportunity to explore a different role in the healthcare field that would allow me to learn the medical and social impact public issues have on the community. I'm excited about the chance to interact and get the perspective of the people within the community while I connect them to significant healthcare resources. I know serving in National Health Corps will be the catalyst to my self-development and the strengthening of essential skills which will make me a significant medical professional in the future.

What are your plans after AmeriCorps service?
I want to continue working in the health care field and expand my knowledge of public health issues. I plan to apply to different PA programs to become a Physician Assistant.

Tell us about an employment, service, or research experience that was important to you.
My job as Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) has taught me a variety of lessons, particularly the significance that a teamwork of different medical professionals have in the overall health of the patients. The compassion I developed in the care of my patients has inspired me to advocate for adequate care and resources to people within the community, particularly those that can't afford it. I've been exposed to people of different medical issues.

What first sparked your interest in community service?
My desire to serve others stemmed from my responsibilities as the oldest child. I played a vital role in helping my parents and siblings in a variety of things. I found pleasure in the positive impact I brought to their lives. That feeling motivated me to seek opportunities to help people in my community. I started off as a volunteer at my local library and gradually, over the years, I became involved in school organizations, my local hospital, and service trips internationally (i.e. Nicaragua, Dominican Republic, Bahamas, etc.). Throughout the services I've learned different things about myself and others around me.

What about Philadelphia excites you the most?
I’m excited about seeing the different historical landmarks in Philadelphia, being exposed to new people, and experiencing the change of seasons.

What is your favorite food?
It’s difficult to say what my favorite food is. I love them all from Italian to American to Caribbean and more.
