Why did you join NHC?
I joined the National Health Corps because I was excited by the opportunity to provide focused support to a community organization and to obtain a practical understanding of public health implementation. In exploring the ways in which individuals interact with our healthcare system through Action Wellness, I'm excited to learn more about kinds of relationships and resources that are important in maintaining a community's overall health and well-being.

What are your plans after AmeriCorps service?
I hope to attend an MD program.

Tell us about an employment, service, or research experience that was important to you.
As an undergraduate student at Cornell University, I volunteered with the Cornell Prison Education Program (CPEP). I was initially drawn towards CPEP because it represented an opportunity to engage intimately with an integral component of American society with which I lacked any tangible exposure. At the same time, I recognized the importance of increasing access to education in an environment where it can be tremendously beneficial for both socially pragmatic and humanitarian purposes, such as mitigating recidivism and improving the capacity of incarceration to rehabilitate. Having seen educational programs operate within prisons, I'm eager to engage in meaningful work within a reentry context through Action Wellness to obtain a more comprehensive view of what it means to cycle through our criminal justice system, and to explore the intersection between healthcare and incarceration in the process.

What first sparked your interest in community service?
I became interested in community service as an undergraduate student because it represented a way for me to establish relationships with people unlike myself. I've since grown to also appreciate the positive impact service can have on the visibility of important issues within a community.

What about Philadelphia excites you the most?
