Why did you join National Health Corps?
I joined the National Health Corps because I wanted to be part of public health projects that are taking innovative approaches to empower, educate, and provide opportunities to at risk communities.

What are your plans after AmeriCorps service?
After my year of service, I plan to pursue a Master’s in Public or Global Health.

Tell us about an employment, service, or research experience that was important to you.
While in college I spent a summer volunteering in a clinic that served the low income and homeless population of a small suburb in Kolkata, India. This experience changed my life and ignited my passion for public health work. I provided healthcare services such as wound dressing, medication dispensing and administration. With other healthcare providers I participated in health education activities on various health topics. Through direct client interactions I learned many valuable skills and lessons about the importance of culturally competent services and the vast multidimensionality of health. I hope to one day go back to India to conduct public health research.

What first sparked your interest in community service?
My family has always been active and involved in the community. I can't remember a time when I wasn't involved in some kind of community service opportunity. I take part in community service because I believe every person has equal value and that we all are responsible for the quality of life of those
that live in our local, national, and global communities.

What about Philadelphia excites you the most?
I am excited to discover all that the city has to offer as I have never been to Philadelphia before.

What is your favorite food?
Indian food, french fries and chocolate pudding
