Educational background: BS in Biology and Gender and Women’s Studies and Certificate in Global Health from the University of Wisconsin-Madison (Go Badgers!)
What is your title and role at your host site?
I will be the Maternal Child Health Coordinator at UPMC Shadyside.
Why did you join AmeriCorps/National Health Corps?
I’m passionate about access to healthcare and health equity, especially as they relate to women’s health. I joined NHC Pittsburgh because I wanted to learn more about and contribute to alleviating health disparities in Pittsburgh communities and gain experience in maternal and child health.
What are you hoping to gain from your year of service?
I hope to learn more about the maternal and child health challenges women in Pittsburgh face, and contribute in a meaningful way to the maternal child health interventions at UPMC Shadyside. I look forward to making connections within the community where I’ll be serving and at my host site!
What are your plans after AmeriCorps service?
I would like to go to medical school and also pursue a Masters in Public Health. I hope to have a career that integrates clinical medicine and public health with an emphasis on women’s health.
Where do you envision yourself in 5 years?
I hope to be in medical school and also working towards an MPH. I would like to be involved in community health and hopefully working with medically underserved populations.
