What is your title and role at your host site?
I am serving as a Patient Navigator at the Squirrel Hill Health Center on the Mobile Medical Unit.

Why did you join AmeriCorps/National Health Corps?
Joining the National Health Corps is a chance to serve others for a whole year.  Service has been an integral part of who I am and NHC enables me to combine my interests of healthcare and working with underserved populations. The chance to have first-hand experience in a medical setting surrounded by professionals providing comprehensive services is a great learning opportunity. I am looking forward to having an impact on my community, working with people from all backgrounds, and overall, having a truly formative experience.

What are you hoping to gain from your year of service?
I hope to gain a new perspective of medical care and a better understanding of barriers to healthcare. I also want to gain a variety of transferable skills that I will learn through my experiences that will help me to better serve others in the future.

What are your plans after AmeriCorps service?
I am planning on attending medical school for matriculation in 2021. After AmeriCorps, I plan on pursuing new service opportunities in whatever city I am in.

Where do you envision yourself in 5 years?
In five years, I hope to be in my fourth year of medical school. I am not positive what field of medicine I intend on pursuing, but currently I am passionate about internal or family medicine.  I am interested in serving underserved populations to help reduce health inequities and to be accessible to as many populations as possible.
