What is your title and role at your host site?
Care Coordinator- Diabetes Support Specialist at UPMC Shadyside Family Health Center.  My role is to meet with patients and offer self-management information, plan educational visits, and collaborate on health quality improvement projects.

Why did you join AmeriCorps/National Health Corps?
I joined National Health Corps so that I could get a full understanding of health and medicine at a community level before furthering my education and working in the public health field.  Additionally, the opportunity to positively impact those affected by health disparities is of great importance.

What are you hoping to gain from your year of service?
Throughout this year I hope to learn more about the barriers people face with their health and work towards sustainable solutions to those barriers.  I am eager for the chance to learn from diverse experiences and develop skills and empathy as a future healthcare professional.

What are your plans after AmeriCorps service?
I plan to attend graduate school for a Master’s in Public Health and work towards obtaining full Registered Dietitian credentials.

Where do you envision yourself in 5 years?
In 5 years, I hope to have a meaningful career in the public health field.
