Educational background: B.S. in Public Health with a minor in Statistics, American University
What is your title and role at your host site?
Patient Navigator, Birmingham Free Clinic
Why did you join AmeriCorps/National Health Corps?
I wanted to take a gap year to do community service, gain some professional experience with a non-profit or clinic, and to put my degree into practice while exploring a new city.
What are you hoping to gain from your year of service?
I hope my time with AmeriCorps will make me a more effective public health professional in the future and a more engaged citizen. I’m excited to work closely with the clinic to reduce health disparities, help the clients navigate difficult health systems, and promote wellness within the community.
What are your plans after AmeriCorps service?
Ideally I’d like to be working with an organization that improves access to care for underserved mothers, children, and families, or for an organization doing research on emerging infectious diseases.
Where do you envision yourself in 5 years?
I would like to have completed an MPH in Infectious Disease or Maternal Child Health, and I am considering enrolling in a dual MPH/PA or nursing program.
