What is your title and role at your host site?

I am the Care Coordinator for the Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC, Division of Adolescent and Young Adult Medicine. I’ll be working with the CHANGE youth health care transition program and the 412 Youth Zone clinic.

Why did you join AmeriCorps/National Health Corps?

I firmly believe health care is a human right, and in my future, I hope to work with underserved populations to alleviate health disparities. NHC seemed like an amazing opportunity to get hands-on experience in the field of public health and to learn more about what role I see myself having in the future.

What are you hoping to gain from your year of service?

I hope to learn more about what I can do personally do minimize health disparities and what role I can have in building a healthier community. Because I will be specifically working with youth, I hope to learn more about the specific challenges they face regarding healthcare.

What are your plans after AmeriCorps service?

I would like to pursue a dual MD/MPH degree. I hope to work with underserved populations in a future career that integrates medicine and public health.

Where do you envision yourself in 5 years?

Hopefully in medical school!
