Why did you join AmeriCorps/National Health Corps?
I am a strong advocate for the positive impact and importance that service has on a community. I joined NHC to be part of a team of like-minded healthcare professionals and members, who are as passionate about working towards change and the well being of others as I am.
What are you hoping to gain from your year of service?
I hope to develop a better insight into the patient/healthcare provider relationship. This year, I strive to create strong, trustful relationships with my patients so that I can support, educate and motivate them to improve their health and the quality of their lives.
What are your plans after AmeriCorps service?
This summer, I started my application to enter medical school. Therefore, following my service with AmeriCorps, I hope to matriculate and begin the long process of becoming a physician.
Where do you envision yourself in 5 years?
In five years, I see myself in the midst of my training to become a physician. I aspire to continue to work to help minorities and underserved populations overcome barriers and gain better access to stronger healthcare, both in communities within the United States and across the world.
