What is your title and role at your host site?

I will be an Outreach Coordinator for Allegheny County Health Department in the Chronic Disease Prevention Program. I will serve as a health educator for the Live Well Allegheny Campaign. Live Well focuses on increasing physical activity, eating healthy, mental wellness, safety, and more.

Why did you join AmeriCorps/National Health Corps?

I joined AmeriCorps/NHC because I wanted to serve communities and decrease health disparities.  A person’s wellness is the most important factor in creating a happy life which I would sincerely love to impact people in such a positive way.  I also wanted to increase my experience in the health field before pursuing my MPH.

What are you hoping to gain from your year of service?

I hope to gain experience in the public health field to ensure this is where my life’s passion is.  I want to experience unique communities to better understand and make a healthy difference in those people’s lives.

What are your plans after AmeriCorps service?

I plan on pursuing my master’s in public health after I serve one year with AmeriCorps and one year in the work force.

Where do you envision yourself in 5 years?

I envision myself pursuing an MPH and really knowing what specific direction I am passionate about in the public health field.  The NHC is where I will start being able to make a difference for the public’s health.  I hope I increase my help and knowledge every year after my time serving.
