Educational background
BS in Public Health Sciences from the University of Michigan

What is your title and role at your host site?
I am a health educator for Primary Care Health Services Inc., a network of federally qualified health centers across Pittsburgh. My role is primarily to provide health and nutrition education to patients managing chronic conditions or patients that are looking to make a positive lifestyle change. I also manage a group wellness program and a pediatric literacy program.

Why did you join AmeriCorps/National Health Corps?
I joined the National Health Corps because it allowed me to put my public health education into action while also giving me the support I needed to pursue a medical career. NHC was also exciting to me because it gave me the opportunity to fully dedicate myself service.

What are you hoping to gain from your year of service?
I hope to gain insight into how primary care providers can address the social determinants of health and what patient needs may be falling through the cracks with our current healthcare system. I am also hoping to contribute to the positive impact our organization is having on the greater Pittsburgh community.

What are your plans after AmeriCorps service?
At the conclusion of my AmeriCorps service year I hope to be matriculating to medical school.

Where do you envision yourself in 5 years?
In five years I see myself pursuing a career at the intersection of public health and medicine in primary care pediatrics.
