What is your title and role at your host site?

I am the Youth Outreach and Care Coordinator at Children’s Adolescent and Young Adult Health Care Center in Oakland. I will be working with CHANGE (Children’s Hospital Advisory Network for Growth and Empowerment) and 412 Youth Zone (one stop center for youth services located downtown).

Why did you join AmeriCorps/National Health Corps?

Pittsburgh is very near and dear to my heart. As someone who is interested in public health and medicine, AmeriCorps/National Health Corps provided the perfect opportunity for me to pair my love for the city with my passion for promoting healthcare.

What are you hoping to gain from your year of service?

I hope to learn more about transition healthcare and the barriers youth face during the transition process; to build relationships with the youth I will be working with; and to learn from the people working at the Adolescent and Young Adult Health Care Center.

What are your plans after AmeriCorps service?

I am planning on doing a post-bac.

Where do you envision yourself in 5 years?

Hopefully in Medical School!
