ACHD’s mission is to protect, promote, and preserve the health and well-being of all Allegheny County residents, particularly the most vulnerable. The Air Quality Program works to improve the air quality for everyone in Allegheny County by reduce air pollution.
ACHD prioritizes air quality as one of this area’s most pressing public health challenges. They want residents to have access to information on air quality in real time, as well as data on progress that has been made to date. Most importantly, public interest is crucial to improving air quality in our county.
The Air Quality Program is made up of five main sections that work together to identify and remedy air quality problems in Allegheny County. Those sections are: monitoring, planning and data analysis, permitting, enforcement, emissions inventory, and asbestos and abrasive blasting.
