Position Summary

This position will coordinate the health-related services and programs for older adults served by the Kelvyn Park Senior Center (which is operated by Northwest Center). This includes ensuring nutrition, health, fitness, mental health programs and activities are being implemented properly and with excellent relationship skills and sensitivity to cultural diversity, since many of our older adults are Latinx. This position serves as the point person for Kelvyn Park.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

Creating healthcare and wellness educational materials; Facilitating and conducting healthcare and wellness trainings and classes; Conducting data collection; Planning and preparing for classes.

Speaks language(s) spoken by patient populations; Compassionate; Experience with public speaking; Open-minded; Non-judgmental; Self-starter; Multi-tasker; ability to balance; Good verbal and written communication skills; Proficient computer skills and data entry skills; Passion for community outreach or helping others to improve their health a plus. Essential to position: Flexible, adaptable, optimistic, good sense of humor, teachable.

Knowledge Required for the Position

Knowledge of AmeriCorps/Health Corps member requirements; Skill with Microsoft Office or other software for a variety of data processing operations involving arrange of problem solving, record keeping, correspondence, and service tracking options. Spanish/English language proficiency; knowledge of structural racism in Chicago and effects on health of marginalized groups and underserved communities



Member uses initiative in carrying out recurring assignments following set procedures, independently. The supervisor assigns service activities, advises on changes in procedures, and is available for assistance when required. The supervisor assigns service activities in terms of project objectives and basic priorities and is available for consultation in resolving controversial issues.


The service activities are reviewed for accuracy through spot checks, through complaints from customers, and through observation of the Member at service. The Member independently plans and carries out the projects and selects the approaches and methods to be used in solving problems. Completed projects are reviewed very generally to determine that objectives have been met and are in compliance with policies and regulations.


Written and oral guides provide specific instructions for doing service. Detailed guidelines exist, including regulations and directives, handbooks, precedents, industry standards and fi les of previous projects. Guidelines are generally applicable, but the Member independently makes adaptations in dealing with problems and unusual situations. Most sessions have pre-existing curriculum and accompanying fact sheets, but others are open to the creativity and vision of the NHC member.

Purpose and Impact of Service Position Assignments

Service position assignments involve a variety of conventional problems, questions, or situations that conform to established criteria. The service position product or service affects the design or operation of systems, programs, or equipment. The service position product or services affect the social, physical, and economic well-being of a substantial number of people on an ongoing basis. These activities serve to improve the knowledge and outcomes of the health of our community residents who are majority Latinx.

To motivate, influence, or educate people to support change behaviors. To increase numbers of participants in programs and presentations.

Special Considerations

Health screening or service required; must be bilingual in Spanish/English and must be fully vaccinated for COVID. In some situations, may have to wear a mask.

Language Proficiency Requirements

Proficiency Level Spanish - Level 3 or above
