Position Summary

The COVID Resource Specialist acts on the cutting edge of adapting residential behavioral health care to a “new normal” while ensuring equitable access to treatment among the Chicago area’s most marginalized populations. The COVID Resource Specialist ensures that persons at Haymarket Center are safe  and healthy as we achieve our mission of aiding “people with substance use disorders in their recovery by providing comprehensive behavioral health solutions” regardless of ability to pay. The COVID Resource Specialist is responsible for educating staff and clients on COVID-19, prevention strategies, and benefits of vaccination. The COVID Resource Specialist works with the Health & Wellness Department team members on vaccination efforts and helps coordinate testing for SARS-CoV-2 infections among persons entering Haymarket Center for treatment of substance use disorder. The COVID Resource Specialist also conducts  linkage to isolation housing among infected persons and re-linkage to Haymarket Center among recovered persons; internal educational and contact tracing efforts; public health reporting; and screening of staff and clients for symptoms of COVID-19.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

Communicating with patients newly diagnosed with Covid-19; Maintaining professional boundaries and respecting patient confidentiality; Collecting and recording information on patients; Providing cases with information about quarantine procedures; Referring patients to social and support services; Following established scripts to provide information to patients; Attending meetings with host site staff as needed; Working closely with staff and leadership; Greeting and intaking patients in person and at testing and/or vaccination sites; Participating in health and awareness campaigns; Creating communications, flyers, and graphics; Developing and providing community education.

Knowledge Required for the Position

Knowledge of AmeriCorps/Health Corps member requirements; Skill with Microsoft Office or other software for a variety of data processing operations involving a range of problem solving, record keeping, correspondence, and service tracking options.

Supervision

Member uses initiative in carrying out recurring assignments following set procedures, independently. The supervisor assigns service activities, advises on changes in procedures, and is available for assistance when required. The supervisor assigns service activities in terms of project objectives and basic priorities and is available for consultation in resolving controversial issues.

Review

The service activities are reviewed for accuracy through spot checks, through complaints from customers, and through observation of the Member at service.

Guidelines

Written and oral guides provide specific instructions for doing service. Most instructions are easily memorized and require little interpretation.

Complexity

Member has to develop, analyze, or evaluate information before the service position can progress.

Member provides timely services of a personal nature to others. Service position assignments involve a variety of conventional problems, questions, or situations that conform to established criteria.
