Position Summary
The Member’s duties and responsibilities connect with and support the work of our health centers by offering vital health education about some of the health issues affecting our patients – nutrition, oral hygiene, reproductive health, among the most important. This service enhances patient understanding of their health status and their role in safeguarding and improving it. Because our clinicians have minimal if any time to devote to this kind of interaction with their patients, the Member’s role is vital in imparting information, strategies and messages to our patients to increase the effectiveness of the work of our health providers.
Major Duties and Responsibilities
Engaging in outreach and promoting health education topics and healthcare services; Recruiting participants
Facilitating interventions and classes about health issue prevention and management and overall wellness; Creating healthcare and wellness educational materials; Planning and preparing for classes; Providing health counseling and coaching; Engaging in program planning; Doing healthy cooking demonstrations.
Characteristics of an Ideal Candidate
Speaks language(s) spoken by patient populations; Compassionate; Open-minded; Non-judgmental; Self-starter; Multi-tasker; ability to balance; Coordination and/or great project management skills; Good verbal and written communication skills; Passion for community outreach or helping others to improve their health a plus.
Knowledge Required for the Position
Knowledge of AmeriCorps/Health Corps member requirements; Skill with Microsoft Office or other software for a variety of data processing operations involving a range of problem solving, record keeping, correspondence, and service tracking options.
Supervision
Member uses initiative in carrying out recurring assignments following set procedures, independently.
The supervisor assigns service activities, advises on changes in procedures, and is available for assistance when required. The supervisor assigns service activities in terms of project objectives and basic priorities and is available for consultation in resolving controversial issues.
Review
Completed projects are reviewed very generally to determine that objectives have been met and are in compliance with policies and regulations.
Guidelines
Written and oral guides provide specific instructions for doing service. Detailed guidelines exist, including regulations and directives, handbooks, precedents, industry standards and fi les of previous projects.
Complexity
The facts or conditions of the service position are clear cut, predictable, and apply directly to the assignment.
