Position Summary

Position Can Start As Soon As Possible!

The Oral Health Educator will have several responsibilities: 1) work with SFDPH Dental Services in providing dental screenings at preschool and elementary SFUSD sites; provide oral health education to staff, teachers, parents, and children, all with the goal to increase access to dental care, 2) connect with community organizations to encourage the incorporation of oral health messaging into daily programming for families of color that face the highest burden of dental decay and 3) assist with launching an anti-racism training series for dental professionals by identifying gaps in existing trainings.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

  • Collaborating with preexisting patients and partner organizations
  • Scheduling and coordinating intervention/class logistics
  • Facilitating interventions and classes about health issue prevention and management and overall wellness
  • Facilitating and conducting healthcare and wellness trainings and classes
  • Implementing and executing program using established protocols
  • Conducting data collection,Planning and preparing for classes
  • Providing health counseling and coaching
  • Keeping and organizing documentation and records
  • Securing equipment and supplies
  • Engaging in program planning
  • Developing community relationships
  • Research to better understand how dentistry functions and the gaps dentistry has in providing equitable care for

  • Coordination and/or great project management skills
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Progressively responsible education or experience in health and human services related field
  • Proficient computer skills and data entry skills
  • Passion for community outreach or helping others to improve their health a plus

Knowledge Required for the Position

  • Knowledge of AmeriCorps/Health Corps member requirements
  • Skill with Microsoft Office or other software for a variety of data processing operations involving a range of problem solving, record keeping, correspondence, and service tracking options
  • Understanding of how their role fits into the bigger picture of CavityFree SF; understanding of the racial health disparities of oral health in SF; ability to identify resourceful team members in CavityFree SF that can help do their job well.

Language Proficiency Requirements

Not required; Speaking languages of the populations served (Spanish, Cantonese, Mandarin) is a plus.
