Allegheny County Health Department - STI/HIV

The STI/HIV program provides HIV, syphilis, gonorrhea, and chlamydia, trichomoniasis and bacterial vaginosis screening and treatment to the residents of Allegheny County. The STI/HIV clinic provides free confidential, walk-in screening services regardless of an individual’s insurance status five days per week. The clinic sees an average of 30-40 patients daily and is staffed with clerical staff, public health nurses, a medical assistant, and a contracted physician from UPMC Magee. 

The STI/HIV program also provides HIV navigation, partner services, and HIV surveillance to investigate, track, and monitor disease in Allegheny County. The surveillance staff ensure that the morbidity in Allegheny County is accurately captured and followed for partner services and linkage to treatment and that trends in disease can be properly monitored. The partner services staff elicits partners from exposed patients to offer free testing and treatment. The HIV Navigation Program focuses on new infections of HIV and co-infections of STIs, STI recidivism as well as providing HIV prevention education and resources to prevent future HIV infections.

STI/HIV program also offers health education, while working with community partners to coordinate testing and education within Allegheny County. STI/HIV’s Condom Distribution Program provides free male/female condoms, lubricants, dental dams, and literature to agencies targeting high-risk populations. The Condom Distribution Program has 80+ community partners. At minimum, the STI/HIV Program distributes 20,000 to 30,000 condoms monthly to the clinic, community-based organizations, and outreach events. Staff are involved in a variety of collaborations and initiatives that include the HIV Commission for the City of Pittsburgh, Southwestern PA HIV Collaborative, the Alignment for Action Coalition and AIDS Free Pittsburgh.
