What is your title and role at your host site?
I will be serving as a Health Educator. I will be facilitating nutrition and physical activity programs with various faith-based organizations, providing tobacco prevention classes to middle and high school students, as well as being an advisor for students in the SWAT program (Students Working Against Tobacco), and I will coordinate heart health screenings throughout the area.

Why did you join AmeriCorps/National Health Corps?
I wanted to take what I’ve learned as a Public Health student and use that knowledge to help others. After learning that health inequalities are still a huge problem, especially in Florida, I felt the need to serve my home state and help others who have limited access to healthcare get the resources and information to help them make healthy choices.

What are you hoping to gain from your year of service?
I hope to gain real world experience and gain skills that are needed in the public health field. By the end of the year, I hope to have a better understanding of the public health issues that we face today, and what is needed to combat these issues.

What are your plans after AmeriCorps service?
At the moment, I am unsure of what my plans are. I am thinking of either going back to school for Nursing, or to go to graduate school for a Master of Public Health.

Where do you envision yourself in 5 years?
I see myself serving my community in any way I can.
