What is your title and role at your host site?
For this upcoming year I will be serving at UF as the Healthy Start Care Coordinator. I will be serving with pregnant women throughout their pregnancy and after their child is born to help them register for various services provided by Healthy Start, Little Miracles and Nurse Family Partnership programs.

Why did you join AmeriCorps/National Health Corps?
After graduating college I wanted to make the most of my year off. I feel that an opportunity to serve an Americorps member and serve underprivileged community will provide me with experiences on which to build my career. I felt that the NHC would allow me to make a difference and improve the quality and understanding of healthcare in the Jacksonville community.

What are you hoping to gain from your year of service?
I hope to learn more about myself and my capabilities in new surroundings and as a future healthcare provider. I am hoping to grow and learn more about the healthcare system and more personally about the differences I can make within the system to help people. I hope to gain irreplaceable perspective on the challenges facing families in underserved communities which will impact the manner in which I move to solve these concerns for my future patients.

What are your plans after AmeriCorps service?
Following AmeriCorps, I plan on attending medical school to become a pediatrician and work toward improving the health and wellbeing of children.

Where do you envision yourself in 5 years? I hope to be graduating from medical school and on my way to a pediatrics residency program.
