What is your title and role at your host site? I am a Patient Advocate which entails me to help poverty-stricken patients with applying for medication assistance in order for them to obtain free medication.
Why did you join AmeriCorps/National Health Corps? I wanted to join AmeriCorps because I am passionate about helping an underserved community by making a positive impact, specifically to improve health care services.
What are you hoping to gain from your year of service? I am hoping to gain experience and knowledge in public health in order for professional growth. Also, I am hoping to learn more about the current health issues in the Jacksonville area. Working within a new community will give me more insight into the issues that individual face when trying to access health care and improve health. I am excited to meet new people and form relationships within the community and with other National Health Corps members.
What are your plans after AmeriCorps service? I plan to attend graduate school to obtain my Master of Public Health degree in Global Health Practice.
Where do you envision yourself in 5 years? In 5 years, I envision myself working at the Center for Disease Control in the Global Health Department. Also, I would like to work and travel to different countries in order to improve the well-being of a community abroad.
