Philadelphia Health Corps Role: Health & Benefits Advocate at FPCN Eleventh Street

Why did you join AmeriCorps/National Health Corps?  I joined AmeriCorps to gain insight into the needs of medically underserved communities.

Where do you want to be in five years? What do you want to be doing?  In five years, I want to be finishing medical school and hopefully starting to work closely with an FQHC in an underserved community.

What is your favorite part of service?  My favorite part of service has been experiencing the support I've received at my host site. There are so many opportunities to collaborate with all of the staff who work at 11th St!

How would you describe the Philadelphia Health Corps?  If you mean the group of people, I would say: The PHC Corps are a group of young, intelligent, caring individuals who I am honored to serve next to; I know all of us will be moving on to big things after this service term. If you mean us as an organization, I would say: The PHC is a volunteer organization that is focused on increasing access to healthcare in the underserved communities of Philadelphia. There is a huge need in this area, but bit by bit, the PHC addresses that need. "Little drops of water, little grains of sand, make the mighty ocean and the beauteous land" -Ghanaian proverb
We won't see the change immediately and it may seem like we are not making progress, but every person we help is "one drop of water...one grain of sand" and that is something.
