Where are you from?

I grew up in the melting pot of Miami, FL, with cultural roots from Colombia. During the last 3 years, I got to live in and meet people from the beautiful city of Baltimore!

Why did you decide to join NHC?

From previous experiences, I have learned that populations facing significant barriers in navigating and accessing quality health care need services that are affordable, accessible, and competent in understanding how social determinants impact health equity. With NHC, I am excited to have found a place that allows members to be part of an interdisciplinary team supporting a community organization in tackling health disparities through community outreach.

What are you hoping to gain or learn during your service term?

In honing my service orientation skills and gaining an understanding of the complexities of public health systems, I hope to learn how to disseminate health resources and information to others through community outreach. I aspire to learn how to effectively help patients navigate social barriers and collaboratively find solutions that inclusively meet the needs of the socially and culturally diverse communities they belong to. In doing so, I hope to help SFDPH foster a safe, trustworthy, and culturally competent environment for marginalized voices to feel supported.

What are you most looking forward to during your service term?

I am most looking forward to learning from and connecting with the people I will work with and serve!
