Why did you join NHC Pittsburgh?
I joined NHC Pittsburgh because Iām passionate about public health and want to promote community health. This program offers an opportunity for me to both serve my community and gain valuable experience that directly supports my career path.
What do you hope to gain or learn during your service term?
I hope to build upon my communication skills and expand my understanding of the healthcare system. I want to connect and learn from the community to better understand the resources people rely on. I also hope to learn more about HIV care, especially how people navigate stigma and how communities can come together to support one another and create positive impact.
What are you most looking forward to during your service term?
I really look forward to getting to know my cohort, building connections with my team, and growing both personally and professionally. I also look forward to spending time around Pittsburgh and experiencing its nature, culture, and museums!
What is something you appreciate about serving in Pittsburgh/at your Host Site?
I truly appreciate the variety of professional development opportunities that NHC offers because they help me continue to learn and improve. I also feel very grateful for my host site manager, who creates a supportive environment where I feel encouraged to grow and ask questions.
What are your plans after your service as an AmeriCorps member?
After my service, I plan to continue working in the public health field. I feel especially drawn to working with communities that face stigma, including those impacted by addiction or HIV. I want to be part of efforts that support people with compassion and help create better communication and understanding and help people get access to care.
