Why did you join AmeriCorps/National Health Corps? I joined AmeriCorps/NHC because I am interested in pursuing a career in public health/social work. I have a background in psychology and social work and wanted to gain more experience in a public health related position. I am also passionate about patient-centered care and direct service and felt that NHC directly related to all of these interests.
Where do you want to be in five years? What do you want to be doing? In 5 years I'd like to be in another state. I'd like to get an MPH degree focusing on Epidemiology or Health Policy and participate in research and advocacy.
What is your favorite part of service? My favorite part of service, other than connecting individuals to health services, has been being in the thick of all of the Affordable Care Act action. The law is a historic step. To see it play out first-hand and be an active participant in the roll-out is very exciting.
What is your favorite part of Philadelphia? My favorite parts of Philly are the music and the food. There are many more opportunities to see live music than in my hometown, so I have been taking advantage. On top of that, the range of restaurants in the city is excellent.
Tell us a random fact. In college I was co-captain of a improvisational comedy troupe. I've been playing jazz music for over 8 years. I enjoy attempting carpentry/woodworking. Most recently I made a bookshelf.
