Rachel Ganz

Educational Background: Graduated from Tufts University in 2013 as a double major in International Relations and Community Health.

Philadelphia Health Corps Role: Patient Assistance Program Advocate at Philadelphia Department of Public Health – Health Center 6

Why did you join AmeriCorps/National Health Corps?  I wanted to work with international populations in the United States while getting real public health and social work experience. I also wanted to be in a corps of people with similar motivations to help others and who wanted to pursue health-related careers.

Where do you want to be in five years? What do you want to be doing?  In 5 years I hope to be working in the public health, social work or education field. I want to combine my interests in community health, Spanish, and case management by possibly working as a Care Navigator in FQHC or living abroad! I eventually want to get an MPH or MSW or both.

What is your favorite part of service?  My favorite part of service has been when my patients tell me that I have improved their quality of life through our advocacy and navigation of the prescription assistance programs.

How would you describe the Philadelphia Health Corps?  Our PHC group is one of my favorite parts of being in Philly. I always look forward to member meetings and group service projects because I love seeing everyone together. Our group is welcoming, passionate, friendly, inclusive and adventure-seekers. I am so happy to be a part of this group and have learned so much already from my peers. I know everyone will go on to do amazing things. For me, it has been the perfect transition from college.

What is your favorite part of Philadelphia?  My favorite place in Philly is the Wissahickon, part of Fairmount Park. It is so beautiful with the fall foliage and there are always people walking, running, biking, and strolling around. It is a bright, positive, relaxing place that I am lucky to have close to my house!

Tell us a random fact. People say I look like a river otter. Also, I am a HUGE Steelers fan.
