What is your title and role at your host site? My title is Bosom Buddies Breast Cancer Care Coordinator and my roles include: providing information and referrals for women seeking help from the Bosom Buddies program, co-facilitating weekly support group meetings for women diagnosed with breast cancer, coordinating outreach initiatives, providing breast health education, and assisting in selection of bras, wigs, and prosthetics for breast cancer patients.
Why did you join AmeriCorps/National Health Corps? I wanted to spend a year engaging with and supporting people in underserved areas of the country. AmeriCorps offers a unique combination of relationship building and education between service members and communities, which I believe is empowering for everyone involved.
What are you hoping to gain from your year of service? I hope to be able to make a difference in the lives of those I serve, and to better understand how I can play a role in bringing quality care to those who need it most.
What are your plans after AmeriCorps service? I plan to apply to medical school and pursue a career in medicine, with an emphasis on public health and women’s care.
Where do you envision yourself in 5 years? Starting my first year of residency!
