Sydney Han smiling

Name: Sydney Han (she/her)

Host Site: Delaware Valley Community Health: Fairmount Primary Care Center

Position: Care Navigator

Where are you from? Houston, TX

Why did you decide to join NHC?
After graduating from college, I wanted to push myself out of the comfort of my home state and explore an entirely different region of the country. I was interested in NHC Philadelphia because of the work it was doing to uplift the Philadelphia community through service. Much of my time as an undergraduate student was spent serving the Austin, Texas community, and NHC offered a unique program where I could continue to gain service experience and further develop my leadership skills.

What are you hoping to gain or learn during your service term?
I am excited for the program because of its focus on public health and communities most affected by healthcare disparities. It is my hope that I contribute to the betterment of these communities by helping to fill in the gaps of care at my local host site. I am eager to gain skills and training in working alongside other healthcare professionals to address the needs of the community.

What are you most looking forward to during your service term?
It is not often that I get to be within arm’s reach of many other major cities. While I am looking forward to exploring all that Philadelphia has to offer, it’s also exciting to be able to take weekend trips to different parts of the east coast. More importantly, I hope to make lifelong friends and connections through this program. I am looking forward to filling my time by going on as many adventures as I can and spending quality time building genuine relationships with those I meet along the way.
