Christina Lee: Life after the Pittsburgh Health Corps
Posted on: February 15, 2014Pittsburgh
How has your service year with the Pittsburgh Health Corps (PHC) thus far helped you solidify your future aspirations?
I believe that my service year with the PHC will help me smoothly transition into medical school this upcoming fall 2014, because my service year thus far has given me much exposure to the medical field. By serving at my host site, the National MS Society, I have gained much insight into the different medications and treatment options for MS, built close relationships with many patients, and witnessed the positive impact medicine plays in the community. For instance, through my interactions with the patients at the neurology clinics, I constantly witness patients improving their health and overall wellbeing with the help of understanding doctors, who effectively target the reason behind the medical issue and provide appropriate preventative care to guarantee a healthier future for patients. As an aspiring physician, I plan to use the exposures and experiences I gained through the PHC in my future to help patients achieve better health.
