What do you do at your site to improve the health and well-being of youth in the community that you serve?
At the UPMC Adolescent Medicine, I serve mainly as a care coordinator in the Service Access for Youth Drop-In Center, which takes place at the Gay and Lesbian Community Center (GLCC) downtown. After patients receive services, I, as the care coordinator, make sure that efforts are not duplicated amongst the service providers and physicians. Additionally, I help youth find stable housing, apply for and obtain jobs, and get health insurance! In the future, I will also deliver HIV and STI testing at my site so that our youth are aware of their status, allowing youth to receive appropriate treatment if necessary.
What are you looking forward to for the holiday?
I'm looking forward to spending time with my family and seeing my brother! I'll be serving Christmas Eve at the GLCC and can't wait for our holiday party and potluck there with the youth.
