Lindsay Wencel
Hometown: I currently live in College Station, TX, but I’ve kind of lived everywhere
Educational background: B.A. in Psychology from The University of Mississippi
Host Site: Barnabas of Nassau County
What is your title and role at your host site?
I’ll be serving as a Care Coordinator for Barnabas’s non-profit primary care clinic. My job will include discharge planning and education for our clients.
Why did you join AmeriCorps/National Health Corps?
Serving others has always brought so much joy to my life and it is something I plan on continuing for the rest of my life. At this point in my life though, I’m uniquely available to serve on a larger scale. In May, I graduated from college, and for the first time in my life, I don’t have any pressing responsibilities. So before I begin my career or take on any other obligations, I want to take a year and give back. I would love the opportunity to give myself totally over to serving my community and be able to make a larger impact on the lives of others.
What are you hoping to gain from your year of service?
I hope to gain experience working in a medical setting, build exciting new friendships, and have an amazing adventure.
What are your plans after AmeriCorps service?
I plan to attend medical school at the end of my year of service.
Where do you envision yourself in 5 years?
I envision myself starting residency and preparing for a rewarding career in medicine.
