What is your title and role at your host site? I am the Health Educator at the Florida Department of Health in Clay County. My role is to support overweight and obese patients by helping them identify and achieve healthy living goals.
Why did you join AmeriCorps/National Health Corps? I became interested in the National Health Corps because it provides an extraordinary opportunity for students to learn about the medical field while working within it. Overall, I judge that my personal and professional goals align with the program’s mission because both aim at confronting and learning about healthcare inequity while improving patients’ health and quality of care.
What are you hoping to gain from your year of service? I hope that my service with the National Health Corps Florida will train me to take on more responsibility and encourage me to engage with a new community. Also, I hope to get a better understanding of the healthcare system and learn about factors that contribute to healthcare inequity.
What are your plans after AmeriCorps service? I plan on attending medical school or entering a graduate program in public health.
Where do you envision yourself in 5 years? Working toward a doctorate degree!
