What is your role at your host site?

I provide youth with the needed tools to prevent the onset of bullying within their communities or help eradicate bullying if it is already present. With a major focus on violent, at-risk neighborhoods in Health Zone 1, I facilitate W.A.V.E. (Working Against Violence Everyday) and Y.C.A.T. (Youth Community Action Team) curriculum at the Hubbard House, surrounding schools with the Police Athletic League (PAL) and local churches.

Why did you join AmeriCorps/National Health Corps?

I joined AmeriCorps/National Health Corps because I desire to serve as a positive role model in my community by propelling the people I encounter to enhance their health and wellness through education and action. Simply put, my personal goal is to impact lives for the better, starting with improving their quality of life.

What are you hoping to gain from your year of service?

I realize that my experience with the North Florida Health Corps would be only about one year but I plan to use every hardship, lesson learned and lifetime bond made to push me in my endeavors to reach my future personal and professional goals. I am certain through the maturing of my present skill sets and the developments of new ones, the North Florida Health Corps will equip me with everything I need to be transformational not only regarding matters of healthcare, but in every sector of my life.

What are your plans after AmeriCorps service?

Since I have a passion to further affect public health on a more national level, after my service term I would like to gain admission into graduate school to pursue my Masters in Public Health.

Where do you envision yourself in 5 years?

In 5 years, I would hope to be able to say that I have graduated with my Masters in Public Health and serving as a Public Health Service Officer for the U.S. Public Health Service Commissioned Corps working my way up the ranks or as backup plan working for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention focused on a career involving Community Health.
