Philadelphia Health Corps Role: Patient Assistance Program Advocate at Philadelphia Department of Public Health – Health Center 2

Why did you join AmeriCorps/National Health Corps?  I joined AmeriCorps because I wanted to dedicate myself to a long-term service project directly working with those in need. National Health Corps also gave me the chance to gain experience in a clinical setting serving those in need of medical care. Through PHC I have been able to prepare for a career in healthcare through their professional development opportunities and learning about the health industry as a whole.

Where do you want to be in five years? What do you want to be doing?  In 5 years, I want to be in medical school learning how I can bring healthcare to those with little access to treatment, and thus little opportunity to overcome the limitations of their condition.

What is your favorite part of service?  My favorite part of service has been interacting with my patients, when we aren't doing exactly what we are there to do, but just having casual conversations and getting to know them.

How would you describe the Philadelphia Health Corps?  PHC has been a perfect program for me, with a good balance of service, professional development, and practical experience. On a more informal note, I have loved getting to know people that you share a lot in common with, and exploring the city of Philadelphia with them!

What is your favorite part of Philadelphia?  West Philly is the best Philly! I live in Cedar Park, and really enjoy the atmosphere it offers.

Tell us a random fact. I have never broken a bone. Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday! Red is my favorite color. I studied abroad in Spain. I enjoy watching, following, and playing sports.
