Where are you from?

I’m a graduate from the University of Delaware and Penn State University, and I’m from Middletown, Delaware.

Why did you decide to join NHC?

I joined the NHC to share my passion for the musical arts, and the emotional and mental support that can be found in music: listening, learning, playing. Being an alumnus of the Delaware public schools, and working closely in current area music programs, has shown the disparity of resources available to students and the impact it has on learning and comfort in school. Music offers a relief outside the core subjects and an avenue to decompress and create.

I have been a performer, teacher, and lifelong enjoyer of music and music performance, directly seeing the benefit of community, belonging, and excitement that group performance can offer to students of all backgrounds, especially those in vulnerable situations that may find school as the only consistent support. A high point of my musical experiences was the honor of marching in the 2009 Presidential Inauguration as part of the University of Delaware Marching Band.

What are you hoping to gain or learn during your service term?

I hope through my work with NHC Delaware and with Imperial Dynasty Arts Program to further support my community and the benefits that music can have on mental health, offering relief from daily life stressors and the ability to build confidence in one’s own abilities leading to holistic mental and health benefits.

What are you most looking forward to during your service term?

Connecting with the youth and the community.
