How Does This Program Work?

 


 


What will you do as an NHC:CHF Member? 

As an NHC CHF member you will be serving the community and acquiring professional development skills in the field of healthcare and public health that will further your career and or educational goals.  NHC welcomes people with all different interests and future goals! The most important quality in an NHC member is a readiness to bring the best they have to offer - their creativity, energy, enthusiasm, and readiness to learn - to serving their communities.  

NHC Community Health Fellowship service position categories include: 

  • Community Health Worker
  • Digital Health Navigator
  • Medical Interpreter 

NHC Community Health Fellowship members provide three main services in the organizations where they serve: 

1. Education: Provide education and skills building support to individuals to improve their health and overall wellness.  

2. Access: Assist individuals in accessing health and related social services to help them lead healthier lives.

3. Capacity Building: Improve or expand direct services to make them more efficient and effective or expand their scale or reach. 

Train- You will receive additional public health and professional development trainings in the forms of :

  • CHW Training (required)
  • Host Site Training (required)
  • NHC Training (required)
  • Public Health Training (required)
  • Digital Health Navigator Training (required)
  • Medical Interpreter Training (optional)
  • Career and Personal Development- After the completion of your NHC: CHF Service Year, you will have the professional and personal skills to acquire a job in the public health workforce so that you can continue to grow your public health career

Serve at your host site (this is where you will spend a bulk of your time)

Meet our Host Sites

NHC CHF Applicants must meet the following AmeriCorps eligibility criteria. These include:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age by the start of service.
  • Must be U.S. Citizens, U.S. nationals, or lawful permanent residents. 
  • Must have achieved a high school diploma or GED by the start of service. 
  • Must not have previously served four AmeriCorps State or National terms.
