My name is Lauren and I'm originally from Peoria, Illinois. I recently graduated from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign with a degree in Philosophy and Molecular and Cellular Biology. In school, I became an EMT, an undergraduate mentor, and a research assistant. Fun fact: I love caring for my small apartment garden.
I was also actively involved in the disability community on campus. I was a personal assistant for fellow students with physical disabilities and led several campus awareness projects. Here, I heard stories of health inequalities due to lack of health education and accessibility. The desire to learn more led me to the National Health Corps service.
I'm very excited to start my service year! This is my first time living in a big city, so I'm excited for the opportunities that I'll have being here. I can't wait to learn more about the community, about myself, and more about what I can offer to the world of public health. I hope to build a foundation of skills regarding health education, project-building, and communication that I can take with me for the rest of my career.
