Position Summary

The NHC Delaware member will work with the NCC DCS’s Absalom Jones Senior Center and 55+Lifestyle Centers, Farmers Market Program, and the Youth Workforce Development Program to reduce health disparities and improve health in vulnerable and underserved communities severely impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. 

Major Duties and Responsibilities

  • Engaging in outreach and promoting health education topics and healthcare services
  • Identifying hosts and sponsors in various communities to form new partnerships
  • Recruiting participants
  • Scheduling and coordinating intervention/class logistics
  • Facilitating interventions and classes about health issue prevention and management and overall wellness
  • Creating healthcare and wellness educational materials
  • Facilitating and conducting healthcare and wellness trainings and classes
  • Implementing and executing program using established protocols
  • Managing program evaluations
  • Conducting data collection
  • Planning and preparing for classes
  • Keeping and organizing documentation and records
  • Securing equipment and supplies
  • Engaging in program planning
  • Developing community relationships
  • Coordinating with food access programs
  • Other duties may include conducting asset mapping, managing multiple projects, and developing and administering surveys or evaluations

Knowledge Required for the Position

  • Knowledge of AmeriCorps/Health Corps member requirements
  • Skill with Microsoft Office or other software for a variety of data processing operations involving a range of problem solving, record keeping, correspondence, and service tracking options 
  •  Knowledge of principles and practice for providing customer service
  • Knowledge of curriculum and training development
  • Skilled in facilitation or instruction
  • Skilled in oral and written communication
  • Skilled in presentation software
  • Knowledge of cultural competency and community engagement
  • Knowledge of mathematics, working with statistics
  • Knowledge of data compilation and analysis

Supervision

  • Member uses initiative in carrying out recurring assignments following set procedures, independently.
  • The supervisor assigns service activities, advises on changes in procedures, and is available for assistance when required.
  • The supervisor assigns service activities in terms of project objectives and basic priorities and is available for consultation in resolving controversial issues.
  • The NHC Delaware member will receive training and support to ensure success in completing service activities, including programs, policies, procedures, available resources, etc.
  • The supervisor will meet weekly with the NHC Delaware member to discuss service-related activities and professional development.

Review

  • The service activities are reviewed for accuracy through spot checks, through complaints from customers, and through observation of the Member at service.
  • The supervisor will review the NHC Delaware member's service activities to determine a need for additional information, guidance, and resources to ensure the assignment's successful completion. The supervisor will meet weekly with the NHC Delaware member to discuss service-related activities and professional development.

Guidelines

  • Written and oral guides provide specific instructions for doing service.
  • Detailed guidelines exist, including regulations and directives, handbooks, precedents, industry standards and files of previous projects.
  • Member must use considerable judgment in adapting current or developing new guidance.
  • The NHC Delaware member will meet with Program staff to become familiar with programs, clientele, policies and procedures. The NHC Delaware member will use data, best practices, innovative ideas to make recommendations for enhancing the service delivery process and practices.

Complexity

  • Member has to develop, analyze, or evaluate information before the service position can progress.
  • The Member must develop new techniques, methods, or approaches to complete service position assignments.

The NHC Delaware member will:  

•    Collect census data, demographic, and geographic information on at-risk targeted populations;  

•     Use asset mapping to identify resources and partner opportunities to address health disparities and provide COVID-19 response through education, information; and  

•    Identify evidence-based best practices to improve current service delivery practices and processes.    

The NHC Delaware member will present creative ideas and recommendations to the Community Services Manager before moving forward.    

Special Considerations

  • Special dress code - The NHC Delaware member will receive training and a copy of the New Castle County Dress Code Policy.  
  • Special safety regulations or precautions that must be observed - Special safety regulations or precautions that must be observed.    The NHC Delaware member will receive training and a copy of the New Castle County COVID-19 Pandemic Policy.  
  • Criminal history check requirements beyond those required by National Health Corps - Criminal History Check  Per DCS policy, all Community Resources staff, contractors, and volunteers complete a fingerprinted background check  to ensure the safety of our youth, seniors and vulnerable populations.  Any candidate with a criminal history or convictions is reviewed for appropriate placement.

Per the New Castle County Department of Community Services’ policy, all Community Resources staff, contractors, and volunteers complete a fingerprinted background check to ensure the safety of our youth, seniors, and vulnerable populations.  Any candidate with a criminal history or convictions is reviewed for appropriate placement.
