Position Summary
Volunteers in Medicine provides free healthcare to the working uninsured, and serves a vulnerable population. The patients who visit Volunteers in Medicine are living paycheck to paycheck and having to pay for healthcare would send them into bankruptcy or homelessness. This host site is preventing homelessness and keeping people employed and able to provide for their families.
The Outreach Coordinator and Clinical Trainer will be responsible for training clinical staff in specific areas, with a focus on proper use of electronic health record. The member will have direct contact with the clinical providers volunteering their time. The member will also assist with collection of data required for reporting to the Board of Trustees. Additionally, the member will have opportunities for scribing for providers who agree to have a scribe.
Major Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist in training new providers on the electronic health record (EHR)
- Assist Chief Operating Officer in data collection for grant reporting.
- Support VIM staff in the move towards a paperless clinic by helping volunteers understand key process timelines and goals set by administration.
- Promote quality measures achievements
- Model professionalism in appearance and demeanor to volunteers.
- Conduct orientation/refresher sessions for providers
- Scribing for providers who choose to have a scribe
- Assist with patient and volunteer satisfaction surveys in data collection
Characteristics of an Ideal Candidate
- Education: Requires a high school diploma.
- Previous Experience: 2-4 years of experience in the field or in a related area.
- Ability to easily communicate with providers (MDs and APRNs) in a professional manner.
- Ability to easily learn a new EMR software system and provide teaching tools to those clinical volunteers being trained.
- Ability to handle sensitive records.
- Ability to perform quality work within deadlines with or without direct supervision;
- Ability to interact professionally with other employees, customers and suppliers;
- Ability to work effectively as a team contributor on all assignments;
- Interact effectively and respectfully with Volunteers of all ages and backgrounds;
- Treat every patient with respect and compassion

Supervision
Member uses initiative in carrying out recurring assignments following set procedures, independently. The supervisor assigns service activities, advises on changes in procedures, and is available for assistance when required.
Review
Completed projects are reviewed very generally to determine that objectives have been met and are in compliance with policies and regulations.
Guidelines
Written and oral guides provide specific instructions for doing service.
Complexity
The facts or conditions of the service position are clear cut, predictable, and apply directly to the assignment.
Special Considerations
- Accessible via public transportation. Personal vehicle is not required.
- Professional working environment.
- Open Monday - Friday 9am - 5pm, and Saturdays 9-12. The member will be expected to have flexibility to meet the needs of the volunteers.
