Meet Caitlyn, Health Educator at Advocate Trinity Hospital!

Posted on: February 27, 2020Chicago

I was born and raised on the southside of Chicago, specifically over east. Growing up my favorite hobbies were to go to dance class or hang out with my older cousins downtown or at the beach. I loved growing up in a big city like Chicago because I feel as though it taught me humility, how to embrace diversity, and also how to overcome obstacles and adversity. I attended Eastern Illinois University in Charleston,Illinois where I received my Bachelors degree in Health Administration with a minor in business. In the future I plan on going to law school and obtaining my J.D. in Healthcare Law. I want to go to law school because I want to be an ally in the healthcare field to the misrepresented. I want people that come from communities similar to where I grew up, to have a voice in healthcare policies and know their rights when it comes to their care.

I decided to join National Health Corps (NHC) Chicago AmeriCorps because I wanted to do more in my community. I have lived in my service area all my life, and I wanted to do more than volunteer at the local soup kitchen. I feel as though my service as an NHC Chicago AmeriCorps member will help me find my niche, and give me a deeper understanding of the issues my community faces. I want to give back to the people I see everyday, and I hope to change at least one or two lives during my time of service.

I'm excited to serve this year because I enjoy making a difference in people's lives, and I love to tackle community issues that no one else wants to touch. I'm also looking forward to bonding with my fellow members and developing new skills during the year.
