What are you doing to fight hunger at your site?
I am serving as a Nutrition Educator at the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank (GPCFB), an organization that has many programs working toward ending hunger, such as Produce to People, which distributes large quantities of produce directly to individuals in need. My service, specifically, is directed more toward educating people about how to cook and eat healthy food. My main focus is Kids Cook, a program that teaches 6-12 year old children about healthy recipes and cooking skills in a three-part hands-on workshop series. I also help develop our CAN (Cooking, Activity, Nutrition) newsletter every month, which gives individuals access to simple and nutritious recipes with ingredients that are either inexpensive or available at the food bank.

What are you thankful for this Thanksgiving holiday?
I am thankful for the opportunity to serve my community and to impact peoples’ lives through the Pittsburgh Health Corps. Specifically, I am thankful that my service position at GPCFB gives me free reign to make changes to our Kids Cook program. So far, I, along with my colleagues, have been able to make the program even more exciting and kid-friendly, with updated lessons and photo-filled recipes. I am also very thankful for having such a supportive network, from family and friends to my fellow PHC members and our program director.
