From Studying Public Health to Promoting Prevention

Posted on: July 20, 2017Chicago

Hello! My name is Theresa Rager and I am excited to serve with Howard Brown Health as a PrEP Navigator for the 2017-18 service term. I graduated from Boston College with a BS in Biology in May 2017. As a Jesuit school, BC inspires us to live out the motto'persons for others," and I have always prioritized service as an extracurricular. Therefore, I am happy to be dedicating a year to serving with National Health Corps Chicago.

While I loved my science classes in college, I was most excited by my medical humanities and public health classes. I have always had a passion for social justice and activism, and enjoyed my experiences working with homeless shelters, an opioid addiction clinic, and an international development nonprofit. I am looking forward to working with other passionate public health practitioners to focus on prevention and delivering culturally-competent, affirming care. I hope to learn more about how the intersection of identities impacts health status and outcomes. When I am not working, you can find me reading, doing Sudoku puzzles, running, or waterskiing. And, as someone originally from the Midwest, I am excited to be back and to explore Chicago!
