Meet NHC Chicago 2020-21 member Tripura!

Hi everyone! My name is Tripura Talagadadeevi, and I am from Overland Park, KS. I recently graduated this past spring from The University of Minnesota, where I majored in Psychology and minored in Public Health and History of Science, Technology, and Medicine (HSTM). I plan to continue my studies next fall to earn a Master of Public Health in Epidemiology. My interests include POC access to healthcare, environmental health, and disease transmission. One day, I hope to research the health impacts of climate change on vulnerable populations across the globe. Currently, I serve as a Health Educator for the Respiratory Health Association. In my free time, I enjoy crafting, hiking, going on road trips, and reading up on sustainable living.

One of my greatest passions has been to serve my community and to be a contributing member of the greater public health network. I knew I wanted to spend a year or two before I began graduate school really exploring the field of public health. This was one of the major reasons I really connected with the mission of the National Health Corps. I really appreciate that the NHC program focuses on career exploration and provides us a variety of resources to become well-educated and successful healthcare professionals. In addition, this position combines two of my biggest passions, public health and community service and I could not be more excited to continue my public health journey with this position! In this service term, I am interested in expanding my knowledge of socioeconomic, racial, and environmental determinants of health and researching how COVID-19 impacts the health and wellbeing of the community members I serve. I believe that a deeper understanding of these healthcare topics will greatly/only enhance my role as a health educator.

Although we are in a global pandemic, I am most looking forward to connecting with my NHC Chicago cohort and experiencing personal growth! I hope to explore all the foodie hotspots and trailheads in the area to embark on creating wonderful experiences in a brand-new environment.
